Vilnius Railway Station Complex
- Location Vilnius, Lithuania
- Year 2021
- Status Competition
- Size 210 000 m²
- Client Lithuanian Railways, LTG Infra, and the City of Vilnius
The competition entry seeks to modernize and streamline Vilnius’ transportation infrastructure by consolidating the city’s train station, local bus station, long distance bus station, and parking facilities into a single centralized hub. In addition to the 30 000 m2 station, 180 000 m2 of new office space, retail, and housing are proposed in order to densify the district and drive future investment. The reconfigured street network and urban structure lend a more coherent scheme, and Stoties Square, the area’s historic public space, is emphasized as the new gateway to the city. The station district serves as a connective tissue, weaving diverse neighborhoods together and bridging Vilnius’ rich history and dynamic future.
Vilnius city municipality, together with Lithuanian Railways (LTG), organized the open international architectural competition to redesign the Railway Station, Central Station Square and Public transport terminal in Vilnius, the capital city of Lithuania. Participants were asked to create an iconic and globally recognizable international railway station, offer a public transportation infrastructure that represents Vilnius in compliance with the highest standards, form an attractive station square, and offer an idea for a viable and cohesive urban centre surrounding the station.
Second prize winner.
