HOAS Hima was created together with the Foundation for Student Housing in the Helsinki Region HOAS as a response to the shortage of student housing by converting a vacant office building into micro apartments. The building’s unusually high floor to ceiling height allows for the construction of mezzanines within the micro apartments. These micro apartments provide students with more privacy than traditional student accommodation, where student’s private realm consists of no more than a bedroom. Numerous, diverse and high quality shared spaces also provide students with opportunities for group study and spending free-time together. The amendment to the detailed city plan also included the neighbouring building (Retkeilijänkatu 13 – 15).
