Ranta-Tampella urban plan is based on our winning entry "Horisontti" for the idea competition of the brownfield area in 2009.The aim was to develop the shore side into an urban housing area connected to the center of Tampere. The development was possible since the Kekkosentie road, which was running on the side of the Näsijärvi lake shore, was moved to a new tunnel.
The city structure is based on varying urban blocks, lively public areas and the new canal which connects the area to the Tammerkoski rapids. The blocks have been shaped so that from most of the apartments you will get magnificent views towards the Näsijärvi lake or the Ahdinränni canal.
We got a possibility to develop the former conceptual ideas even further in the Canal block 990. Based on our winning entry "Sinoperi" in an invited competition we designed a row of housing buildings along the canal. The slightly varying volumes, brick colours and details in different buildings create a rich yet uniform overall appeance to the canal side.
