The Ratamo Centre is a significant part of Kouvola’s social and healthcare service structure which supports the integration of social services, healthcare, basic healthcare and specialised hospital care. This will support national development goals for social services and healthcare. The spatial design is customer-driven and allows for the customer’s role as an active participant. The Ratamo Centre’s interior spaces can be flexibly modified, and can also be expanded when new needs come to light or operations are expanded.

Architectural protrusions bring tension to the facade of a deep-framed building. The reddish-brown material of the facade is profiled ceramic tile. The general shades of the interior are characterized by light tones and natural light on the effect walls with abstract image surfaces referring to nature. Wood has also been used: the ceilings in the lobby are made of oak and the doors have an oak surface.
